The “American Corner Sibiu”, an established cultural centre officially inaugurated in December 2022, is a United States Department of State-sponsored initiative and a partnership between the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest/ Romania and the ASTRA County Library of Sibiu, Romania.
The mission of the American Corner Sibiu is to build authentic trust and a safe cultural space for Romanian and US citizens in the region. It serves various communities, providing reliable information, diverse resources, and a framework for a wide range of cultural and educational activities. It hosts programs highlighting American culture and the values of democracy, English-speaking courses, workshops on media literacy, various discussion groups, seminars, exhibits, meetings with U.S. and local representatives specializing in American studies.
The American Corner Sibiu provides access to the general public to a valuable repository for books, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and e-books focusing on the English language and American culture, as well as complimentary access to the Internet and various educational materials.
